- who are you and what do you do?
i'm Juan. I'm a 23 year old video editor with over five years of experience and have been editing on tiktok/instagram since late 2020, i speak english and spanish. i've been living in Colombia since late 2017 but previously lived in Canada and was born in the US. currently trying to move back to North America before 2027 so i can open my opportunities/horizons further!- how exactly did you get into editing?
well, I started making gaming videos when I was around 12 and tried to find success on youtube for a while. It didn’t really go anywhere but I got into editing as a hobby due to that and ended up working with a few small youtubers between 2016 and 2018 using sony vegas. Around 2019, I started experimenting more with marvel edits, and when covid hit in 2020, I decided to trying posting in october of that year on tiktok. I blew up within my first week luckily and just kept going from there.- what program do you use or have used in the past?
well when i first starting editing i used programs like sony vegas pro and camtasia studio but at the start of 2020 i started using after effects from there on. i have never used capcut or any other mobile app before in the past since i never tried mobile editing. i also use adobe premiere for more long formatted edits which i want to continue doing for the years to come.- since you are in your 20s do you think you will stop editing any time soon?
i don't think so, this has always been a conversation among the editing community for YEARS because ever since covid the new editors coming in are at the least 13-15 years old or even a bit younger which is crazy. and more people are surprised about how many editors are actual adults. i don't think editing should be gatekeeped for "kids" only and especially if you want to get into editing as a professional thing which is one of my end goals.

- it seems you have gotten a lot of followers across different social medias in the last 5 years, how exactly can someone else achieve that kind of success?
i will always say it's all about consistency and staying alert for when stuff trends. social medias in general love when people talk about new stuff that has dropped and that goes the same for editing on any platform. always try to edit the new trendy stuff as fast as possible and always scroll on the fyp to see if there's any possible trend associated with an audio or style cause tiktok loves repetition as well. i think i've gotten to the point where i can easily predict what can blow up and what won't based off experience.- what's your goal for the next 5 years since it's been half a decade since you started?
my plans have shifted a lot then what i thought it would be a year or two ago, originally i planned on editing less on social media by 2027, but now my plans is to move back to north america as fast as i can and keep my consistency going so i can get huge opportunities by the time i move cause i've been offered so much via emails but my location has always been a problem. pretty much my goal is to expand my socials, move back to north america and end up being invited to premieres and screeners. (which i have been invited to for small esque films but couldn't accept also due to location)- you edit lots of movies and shows what are your favorites?
i have a letterboxd and a serializd! my user on both is JuanEdits, but yeah i pretty much love mostly drama and action if i had to pick 2 genres my top 4 favorites movies are, back to the future, raiders of the lost ark, into the spider-verse and little women! my top 4 favorite shows are doctor who, dark, mr robot and severance. more of my favorites and what i watch on my pages!
